6 days until Vail’s Opening Day. It’s finally here. The Vail crew has been able to make a ton of snow and has gotten the mountain in good shape for Friday. We could use, as always, a big snow to get everyone fired up for the season, though. Everyone do a snow dance! Here are a few more things that are new to Vail this season.

Winter Teva Games. On February 9-12, 2012, Eddie Bauer will introduce this new festival celebrating adventure sports and mountain lifestyle. The summer edition of the Teva Games brings people from all over the world to Vail and hopefully we see the same crowd for the Winter Teva Games. Some of the events that will take place include ice climbing, on-snow biking, telemark skiing, and dog events. There will also be parties, music, and snow and ice sculpture contests as part of the Games as well. Sounds like a fun weekend to me!  For more information, visit www.tevamountaingames.com.

Lionshead Transit Welcome Center. The RA Nelson construction crews have been working all summer on the Lionshead parking structure to create this new Welcome Center. It is scheduled to open December 15th. The building will include a transit waiting area, restrooms, the new information center, Vail Recreation District programming and community meeting space. They have done a beautiful job on the exterior of the building and I can’t wait to see what the inside looks like.

We can’t wait to see everyone this winter. Since I am new to Lodge at Lionshead, please make sure and stop by the desk to say hi and introduce yourself. Yay winter!
