Our Favorite Fall Drives

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and nothing I could write would convey the beauty of the fall season in Vail like this photo.  The bright gold of the aspen trees against a brilliant blue Colorado sky is a spectacular sight to see!  My friends and I have a "Fall Foliage Day" each year involving a drive, sometimes hikes, always food and often beer or wine (with designated driver, of course).  If you are planning a vacation

Vail's Greatest Celebration of Fall!

It’s time to dust off those steins and practice your keg bowling skills, Oktoberfest is here! Whether you travel to Beaver Creek for the day, take the Gore Creek path to Lionshead Village for the festivities, or hop on the bus to Vail, there will be no lack of beer and fun. If you have never been to an Oktoberfest, you have 3 weeks to get out and take advantage of this exciting tradition. Here is what's on tap:

Tour de France Teams to Compete in Colorado

This is a big deal.  It's a big deal even if you're not a cycling fan.  The Quizno's USA Pro Cycling Challenge is bringing a world-class stage race back to Colorado for the first time since the now-defunct Coors Classic (1980-88).  The race takes place from August 22-28, 2011 and the Vail Valley pulled out all the stops to sponsor one of the stages.  Then, it actually kind of got two.  On Thursday, August 25 the Individual Time Trial (stage 3) starts in Vail Village and follows the popular Vail Pass route east.  The following day, stage 4 begins in Avon

Hot Summer Nights FREE Concert Line Up

After a lengthy and rather snowy off-season, summer finally arrived in the Vail Valley a few weeks ago.  The warm weather and sunshine have been most welcome!  Since we didn't have much of a spring to ease into summer, it seems shocking that all of the sudden it's warm AND summer events are starting.  The hugely successful Teva Mountain Games took place this past weekend and FREE concerts start next week.  How did that happen so quickly???

Taste of Vail: Mountain Top Picnic

The second of the "Big 3" Taste of Vail events is a festival favorite that is unique to Vail.  Every food and wine festival has a Grand Tasting, but not every festival has a Mountain Top Picnic at 10,350 feet with panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains.  On Friday April 8, festival goers will ski or ride the gondola to Eagle's Nest for the short walk over to the specially hand built snow arena filled with f

Korbel American Ski Classic This Week

The 29th anniversary of the American Ski Classic takes place this week in Vail.  Expect a lot of ski racing - the Conway Cup for aspiring local racers, the Korbel Ford Cup with ski legend/ celebrity teams, and the Volvo Legends of Skiing Giant Slalom where former Olympic, World Cup and World Champion ski racers get to take the gloves off and prove they still have that killer racing instinct!
