Here's a quick glance at events taking place this weekend in the Vail Valley:

Lionshead Oktoberfest - Takes place this Saturday & Sunday just steps from Lodge at Lionshead.  German beer, brats, oom pah bands, keg-bowling, brat-eating contests and good people watching.  Need we say more?  For more details, see my previous post.

East West Hoe Down - Friday, 9.11 at the Eagle River Center on the Eagle County Fairgrounds.  A staple charitable event in the Valley since 2000, the Hoe Down selects different local charitable organizations each year to be the recipients of funds raised.  My good friend, Cara Connolly, is in charge.  This woman is overflowing with down-home southern charm and has a wicked sense of humor, so I can guarantee this event will be a good time!  For 60 bucks, you'll get dinner, drink tickets, silent auction and entertainment including Western Wear Costume Contest, Bull Riden' (mechanical, of course) and more.  Benefits the Colorado Mountain College Foundation and First Descents this year.

Farmers' Markets - Minturn & Edwards on Saturday and Vail on Sunday.  Lots of artisan foods, fresh local produce, arts, crafts and other gourmet items at each market.

Potatopalooza - Saturday, 9.12 - Once upon a time, our county seat - Eagle, CO - was a thriving potato producing area.  To celebrate this, Eagle hosts Potatopolooza each summer.  Zany events include a couch potato race, potato car derby and potato bake off.  For the rest of us, there are live musical performances all day ending with The Samples in town park and the beer garden.

La Sportiva Evergold Trail 10K - Sunday, 9.13 - Final event of the season in this popular town running race series.

The gondola will be running again this weekend and you'll find lots of great restaurants specials and retail sales as Vail starts to slow down in preparation for the coming winter season.
