Snow is covering the Gore Range and the leaves are quickly disappearing from their branches here in the Rockies. That means the 2011/2012 ski season is right around the corner! Therefore, I feel the need to share some of the things that you will find new on Vail Mountain this season. Over the next few weeks, I will talk about everything new and different from last season, from new events to new lunch spots on the Mountain. Instead of covering everything in one entry, I will cover one topic at a time leading up to November 18th, letting the excitement build, one blog at a time. So, everybody do a snow dance and join me over the next few weeks as we enter into the new season!

New Restaurant at Mid-Vail, The 10th

The Vail Mountain crews have been working all summer on this new establishment and it's one of the major changes you will see while out and about on the mountain this season. “The 10th” will open for dining on December 1st and will be a fine dining, table-service experience. The name, “The 10th” is a respectful nod to the 10th Mountain Division, many of its members were also founders of Vail and significantly helped the development of skiing in the United States.

The new building overlooks the Look Ma and Challenge trails from the deck and offers a perfect view of the Gore Range from the main dining area. It is a 13,000 sq ft establishment and will seat 240 people seven days a week, for lunch only. The modern, alpine inspired menu consists of sandwiches and entrees, soups and salads, and a children’s menu. For those who want a quick bite mid-day, the bar promises to accommodate.

Reservations are strongly recommended and it is sure to be very popular this season. Let me know if I can make a reservation for you and your family this winter. I’m happy to help!
