Even though Vail just turned the corner from summer to fall, there is still an impressive line-up of events to look forward to this September and October. The first of these is Vail Oktoberfest which takes place over the span of two weekends in Vail. Vail’s quintessential Bavarian celebration was named among the ten greatest Oktoberfest celebrations in the United States by USA Today. Impressive, right? All the more reason to travel to Vail and check it out for yourself!

The weekend of September 5-7 is Lionshead Oktoberfest. The Bavarian beer garden will be set up over in Vail Square, which just a hop, skip and a jump from Lodge at Lionshead. That means our very fortunate guests can enjoy as many beers and brats as they’d like, and still make it safely home to their condos here at the Lodge. They are also just far enough away to escape the late night oompah music when sleep finally beckons. Oktoberfest events over the course of the weekend include ever popular keg bowling, the Klement’s bratwurst eating contest, a stein lifting contest, Oktoberfest costume contest, dancing and sing-a-longs with the legendary Helmut Fricker, and a Family Zone for the kids. Of course, no Oktoberfest celebration would be complete without brats, spaetzle, pretzels, and beer! Beer this year will be provided by German brewery, Paulaner, which fittingly was founded in Munich – the birthplace of Oktoberfest – in 1634.

The following weekend, September 12-14, Oktoberfest moves to Vail Village. Vail Oktoberfest will include all of the same great iconic events, food and drink, so that you can do it all over again. When you’re not saying “Prosit” and clinking steins with your friends, there is still plenty of activity to be had including hiking, biking, fishing, and golfing. Fall colors are already peaking out on the mountainsides and will only get more vibrant as September goes on. The Eagle Bahn gondola in Lionshead will be running from 9am-6pm both Oktoberfest weekends and provides easy access to spectacular views at the top of Vail Mountain. Gondola 1 in Vail Village will be running, as well, from 9am-4pm.

This truly is one of the most beautiful times of year to visit Vail. Why not come visit and enjoy some Bavarian revelry while you are here? Dust of those dirndls and lederhosen, ladies and gentleman, and take advantage of our lodging offers below. Ein Prosit!
