The Last Run

Tillie & I spent our last day on the mountain for the 2008-2009 ski season. We are headed to CA to visit family & friends so we're leaving ahead of the mountain closing. Our last day was a beautiful fun day of skiing with absolutely the best snow conditions of the season. We did all of Tillie's favorites; Chaos canyon, Magical Forest and the snowboard park. We skied down to Lionshead thinking we were done, on a whim I asked if she wanted to go up chair 8 for just 1 more run and surprisingly the answer was YES. So we clicked back in our skies and hit it for 1 more fabulous run.

Another Winter Storm Warning in Vail

I wish I knew how many winter storm warnings we've had so far this season.   Seems like hundreds, but that might be a little extreme.  Vail Mountain has already had 26" of snow this week not including the blizzard conditions that swept into town with the winter storm warning this morning.  Ryan and Alfonso, Lodge at Lionshead's dedicated maintenance engineers who have had the pleasure of shoveling all morning, think we got at least a foot in 2 hours.  Our snowmelt system for the heated paths and driveways can't keep up with the pace of the storm.&nb

Gourmet Food & Wine at Taste of Vail This Weekend

It's back!  Taste of Vail officially opened yesterday with the Colorado Lamb Cook-Off in Vail Village and continues for the next three days with a wide range of culinary events.  Favorite events are the Mountain Top Picnic at Eagle's Nest on Friday and the Grand Tasting on Saturday night.  But that's not all.  The beauty of the festival is that is in not only food and wine.  There is a slew of other events that cater to the more adventurous and trendy foodies out there:

April Showers...

We are definitely seeing snow showers this first day of April!  The sun is peaking out a little this afternoon, but only after a full morning of blizzard conditions.  All of the people lucky enough to be visiting this week are experiencing fantastic conditions on Vail Mountain!  Personally, I'm ready for spring, but will take the snow while we can get it.  Deep snowpack now makes for amazing whitewater conditions this summer...

It's a Powder Day!

Winter is back with a vengence!  20" of snow has fallen on Vail Mountain in the last 48 hours.  It is amazing how quickly conditions can change from spring skiing to champagne powder.  As I cleared several inches of fluff off of my car this morning, I knew conditions on Vail Mountain today would be awesome!  Unfortunately, I'm still nursing a broken ankle back to health so I can't experience the powder first hand.  I considered it, believe me, after all a ski boot is stiff and supportive, right?   Maybe not.  My common sense has gotten the bett

Celebrity Watching in Vail This Week

This week the American Ski Classic returns to Vail.  Each season this Pro/ Am celebrity ski event features ski racing each day and entertainment each night.   Celebrities face off against former Olympians and ski team members in the Volvo Legends of Skiing Giant Slalom and then the "legends" captain celebrity teams for the Ford Cup races.  The big question, of course, is  - which celebrities can you expect to see this week?  We hear Buzz Aldrin, Robert Carradine, Robert Kennedy, Jr., Kerri Strug, Amy Tan, Joe Washington

Some of Our Favorite Vail Restaurants

Rachel and Heather - two of the most knowledgeable and friendly concierges in Vail who also happen to work at Lodge at Lionshead - have offered to let us in on a few of their favorite places to dine out. For high-end dining, they suggest Terra Bistro, Montauk, La Bottega, Larkspur and La Tour. For more casual fare, Los Amigos has great Tex-Mex in addition to a lively après ski scene on their deck right at the base of the Vista Bahn in Vail Village. Pizza lovers can indulge at Pazzo's or Blue Moose Pizza - both have specialty pizzas as well as the old stand-bys.

Marvilloso

What a special day!  Tillie & I skied with return guests of the Lodge at Lionshead who have become wonderful friends; Antonio, Alma and Tonio Correa.  The sun was shining, there was 5-6" of new snow on Vail Mountain and we skied all day long.  While I finished a bit of work in the office, the kids swam in the pool.  We finished our day with a lovely meal in their condo.  The more time we spend sharing stories of our lives the more we feel like family.  I will be sad to say good-bye to them tomorrow but will look forward to seeing Antonio and Alm

Spring Skiing Sneak Peak

Vail guests and locals have been spoiled this past week with a preview of the gorgeous spring weather to come.  Temps have been in the 40's on the slopes and 50's in town.  I love a Colorado blue bird day on Vail mountain!  Follow it up with apres ski on a sunny deck and you've had the perfect day.  It just doesn't get any better.  Unless it's a powder day.  With storms in the forecast for the weekend, Vail may get one of those very soon...
