Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines Festival This Weekend

Another great reason to visit Vail this weekend!  The Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines Festival will be returning for its tenth anniversary and will be held at the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa in Vail, CO from January 7 - 9, 2010.  Lodge at Lionshead is a quick free shuttle ride away, so you can taste all of the beers you want and not have to worry about driving back to our property.

Recent Vail Valley Dining Experiences

I normally don't eat out a whole lot and when I do it is in Edwards (12 miles west of Vail where I live).  Edwards, by the way, has some very good restaurants.  Anyway, I have had family and friends in town the past couple of weeks which means a lot of good eating out elsewhere!  One of my new favorite restaurants is Splendido in Beaver Creek.  Truly elegant in ambiance, I had the best crab cake and filet I have ever had.  Really.  The service was excellent and wine wonderful.  I would definitely recommend it if you have some money to spend, and you will need

Happy Holidays from Lodge at Lionshead!

It is the most wonderful time of the year and the busiest time of the year, as well!  Santa brought us some snow this week - 6 inches so far - and we are still under a winter storm warning so could see more in the next 24 hours.  Let it snow, let it snow, LET IT SNOW!

Discovery Center @ Eagle's Nest on Vail Mountain

At the top of the gondola on Vail Mountain, the usual skiing and snowboarding you think of fades to the background and a whole new set of activities gets center stage at Adventure Ridge.  One of the little gems you'll find is the Nature Discovery Center presented by the Gore Range Natural Science School, the US Forest Service and Vail Resorts.  Naturalists staff the center to answer questions about the area and the many exhibits housed at the center.  They also have some great events that are well worth checking out:

Great to See Our Old Friends at Lodge at Lionshead

It was a busy at Lodge at Lionshead this past weekend.  We welcomed back three of our favorite groups of guests - the Nichter/ Malone ski group, the Youngquist ski group and Vogel ski group.  These groups of guys have been staying at our property over this weekend each year for the past several years - one group for at least the last 12 years (that's when our records end).  They are definitely all part of the Lodge at Lionshead family!  Individuals from the groups often come back through Vail and stay on their own, so we get to meet spouses, family and other friends, as wel

New Snow and More Terrain Opening on Vail Mountain Today

The Vail Valley has been in the midst of a winter storm warning the past couple of days and has received 10 inches of new snow in the last 48 hours.  Hoorah to the snow gods!  More snow is expected today and tomorrow.

New snow means more terrain is opening on Vail Mountain.  Mid Vail runs at chair 4 opened yesterday and Game Creek Bowl opens today.  We're getting ready to welcome back a couple of our loyal mens groups who have stayed at Lodge at Lionshead for many years and they will be very excited to get this news!  Keep thinkin' snow...

Birds of Prey World Cup This Week

Men's World Cup Ski Racing returns to the Vail Valley this week.  Taking place on the legendary Birds of Prey course in Beaver Creek, it promises to include lots of spills and thrills in disciplines including the men's Downhill, Super-G, Giant Slalom and Super Combined.  Crowds can cheer on some of the best skiers in the world including Bode Miller, Aksel Svindal, Didier Cuche, Ted Ligety and Steve Nyman.  You'll definitely want to spend time in the Finish Stadium where all of the race day action happens and where you can see live music, "halftime" enterta

Vail Mountain Opens Tomorrow!

Most of the year it's pretty cool to live in a ski town and opening weekend it's definitely cool to live in a ski town!  Local's smiles are little bit bigger as they dust off skis/ snowboards and dig out their gloves and goggles from last season.  Everyone is a buzz about snow conditions and runs that will open.  Local shops are busy doing last minute equipment tunes.  The excitement is infectious and it's everywhere.  Oh, and did I mention US Ski Team stars Bode Miller and Lindsey Vonn have been training at Golden Peak all week?  I love&n
