Three weeks from today the mountain opens in Vail, Colorado! I'm starting to panic because I need to find a new pair of perfect-fitting tele boots before opening date. That's going to be a challenge, but with all of the expert boot fitters around here I'm sure to find something. I need to be prepared for those long lunches at work when I can walk right out the back of Lodge at Lionshead and over to the lifts for a few (or more on a powder day!) runs. Is my job great or what?

It is DUMPING snow in Vail right now which has inspired us to put another early season special out there. Book by Vail Mountain's opening day on November 20th and you'll get 10% off your reservation. Did we mention we've also rolled back our rates to 2007-08 pricing? It's like getting 2 specials for the price of 1!

Get ready to find some amazing deals this weekend at the 40th Annual Ski & Snowboard Swap in Vail, Colorado! The swap is hands down the best place to find deals on new and gently used gear - skis, snowboards, boots, cross country gear, goggles, hats, gloves, clothing and more. Dobson Ice Arena, located just to the east of Lodge at Lionshead, hosts the swap each year and it is filled to the rafters with everything you could possibly need for the season.
Here's the schedule:
October 30: 5-7pm $15 early bird admission

As I drove into work this morning snowmaking was in full swing at Golden Peak. It's always fun to see the snow guns start blowing and hear the familiar whiring sound they make this time of year. By Halloween, I expect snow guns to be going full force in Lionshead, as well. I'm starting to get excited for ski season! Can't believe Vail Mountain opens in less than a month.

Fall weather was back this weekend with temperatures in the 50s and 60s. Definitely warm enough for flip flops before we start wearing boots all winter! It was also a fantastic weekend for the first annual "Man of the Cliff" competition in Red Cliff. For those of you not familiar with Red Cliff, it is a small town of approximately 300 people just south of Vail, Colorado. Town residents favor snowmobiles as their preferred mode of transportation during the winter and are definitely what we would consider hard-core mountain folk. Fitting then, that th

I recently updated our online event calendar for this winter and am starting to get excited for the coming season! Vail Mountain is hosting many of the same great signature events - Vail Snow Daze in December, CarniVail over Mardi Gras weekend and Spring Back to Vail in April. The Vail Snow Daze schedule was just announced last week and includes FREE concerts by Robert Randolph & The Family Band and headliner Barenaked Ladies. What an awesome line up! The third and final band will be announced shortly.

It is gorgeous in Vail, Colorado today. Capital g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s, GORGEOUS! This is THE week to come see the Aspen leaves in all of their glorious golden splendor. Leaves were close to peaking this past weekend, but not quite there...

We're not really celebrating. In fact, I'd say with the exception of our general manager, we are rather depressed. Joy won't even say the word "snow" - she says we are not allowed to say "that s-word" yet. The good news for you is that this is undoubtedly a good omen for ski season. It's good news for us, too, as it is part of the reason we live here. Epic snow is something we worship religiously around these parts, especially when it falls in several inches or feet upon Vail Mountain. However, we would prefer to not t

If you have missed the other two, this is the final Oktoberfest of the season in Vail. This weekend the festivities move to Vail Village for the last hoorah! Our weatherman tells us the days will be spectacularly sunny and we're already starting to see the leaves turn so you can get your first glimpse of fall. This will also be the final weekend that the gondola runs until the mountain opens again this winter. Come on up and enjoy the fall and the festivities!
