Vail's renowned International Dance Festival begins tonight with king of tap, Savion Glover, and jazz legend Eddie Palmieri performing at Ford Amphitheatre. Based on Glover's two sold-out performances last year, this show should be well-attended!

The dog days of summer have arrived in Vail. Now - to give you some perspective here - this means temps are in the high 80s and sometimes low 90s. We locals think this is hot. Our lodging guests in town from Texas, the East coast or the Midwest, think it's balmy in comparison to their hot and humid locales. It's all a matter of perspective, isn't it? Regardless, everyone wants to stay cool in the summertime and here are some of our favorite ways to do it in Vail:

We get this question quite often from prospective guests interested in our lodging options. They've usually been to Vail, but can't quite picture where we are located. The standard answer is that Lodge at Lionshead sits along Gore Creek a short 100 yards from the Eagle Bahn gondola. We also like to tell people that we are just on the east side of Lionshead Plaza. At this point, most folks have figured out our geographic location.

The first sign it is almost Fourth of July in Vail? Eager locals and visitors lined up at Ford Amphitheatre this morning to purchase tickets for reserved seats to the Patriotic Concert on Sunday at 2pm. I went over at 8:30am and there were probably 75 people in line and that did not include the true early birds (my friend, Lee, for one) who were there shortly after 6am this morning. Reserved seating sold out before I made it to the window; however, I did learn a thing or two about how to potentially purchase "extras" on Sunday.

My mom gets into town tonight for a little vacation with her daughters (we all live here) which means that I get to play tourist for the next week and a half with her. She couldn't have picked a better time to come because there are so many wonderful, unique events going on and the weather is absolutely perfect. It's going to be great!

Bud Light Hot Summer Nights is a Vail summer institution. This free concert series has been around ever since I moved to the Valley in 1995 and is one of the most popular events throughout the summer. Each Tuesday night, loc als and visitors alike flock to the stunning outdoor Gerald R. Ford Amphitheatre for great music and some of the best people watching around.

There are so many events on tap this weekend at the Teva Mountain Games that it's hard to know where to start. Comps range from easy going to hardcore. Athletes range from everyman to pro. Spectator events range from mountain sports to film screenings. How do you choose? Lucky for you, we've done this a few times. Here are our picks for the "must sees" in each category:

Or in my case, it's been welcome home to summer in Vail, CO. I finally made my off-season escape to the islands on May 22 after weeks of snow and cold in the Rockies. It seemed that summer was never going to arrive in Vail! I needed my taste of warm weather and the tropics seemed the best place to get it. Unfortunately, warm weather turned into "unseasonably hot" according to the locals and while the scenery, sailing, snorkeling, seafood and general unplugging were more than worth the trip, I was ready to get back to the mountains by the end of i
